Works In Progress Packet
Finally got around to shooting a couple photos of the pieces I’m working on in the studio. some have received more attention for better or for worse. Im pleased with where I am headed, although I recognize some of these works have been more like journal entries, complete spew of my conscience.
Enjoy…
What’s happening in the art cave?
If any of y’all are in San Francisco in early november… it would behoove you to check out the paintings I have been working on for… well forever.
John Espey has produced several videos through Merchants of Reality and explored e-waste sculpture, electronics, aquaponics, and painting. He works freelance on video and film projects around the Bay and brings his education in Biology to his work.

It has been a year and we are still building a dream over here at Merchants. We would love if you would come celebrate with us. We are so lucky to work in this space and have the opportunity to manipulate our tangible realm to suit our needs.
Come on down to 285 9th st. @ Folsom on July 8th @ 8pm to see what we have done to the space!

Joshua Nissen King
moments of intricate delicate line and detail, pan two inches, abstraction, splatter, and chaos fill intermediate space. King’s work investigates personal implementation of defense and coping mechanisms. King arbitrarily reveals our tendencies to wear masks or hide behind routine or familiarity to create a sense of safety in our immediate lives. His work is currently going through change, a particularly difficult thing to deal with halfway through a cohesive body of work. This new variable enforces the overall concept and begs for introspection by the viewer. Turbulence and destruction lends a shattering sense of anxiety, a gasping pain in the chest that sends carbonation up and down your spine. In spite of the bold quick abstract shatter, the focal figure remains strong, stubborn, even apathetic to their surroundings.
King plays with perspective and questions the reality of social construct and confines that are created by a lesson ever being learned. Though, subject wise, his work seems depressing, the colors he uses are energetic and lofty in their intentionally random placement.
King is very open to discussing his work more throughly and even open to dishing out some tricks of the trade.
